Thirty km around the Orangery, our guests can visit Aire-sur-l’Adour (10 km, Church of St. Quitterie, UNESCO site, cathedral); Saint-Sever (25 km, UNESCO site, former Benedictine abbey, old town, Jacobins convent-museum); Mont-de-Marsan (30 km, old town, museums); Nogaro (24 km, in the Gers, church and old town); …

But also typical villages like Geaune (4 km), Grenade sur l’Adour (18 km). And a little further (45 km) Labastide d’Armagnac, Eauze (Gers)

Several castles are worthy of interest: Ravignan (20 km), Le Lau (7 km), Aon (Hontanx, 25 km), and a little further Gaujacq or Amou. In the Gers : Mascaraas (25 km), the castles of Madiran like Viella or Crouzeilles.

 

Museums

Mont-de-Marsan was in the twentieth century a capital of sculpture, which is visible in his museum whose collections are rich of female sculptures of Despiau or Wléricq

In Samadet (17 km), there is a museum of faience and a museum of ceramics. Samadet had a renowned production in the 18th century. The one in the city houses every summer an exhibition of contemporary creators. Another, 3 km away, exhibits a rich collection of pieces.

Other cities have specialized museums, such as Grenade sur l’adour (Landes history and Resistance in the Landes during the Second World War), Bascons, 25 km (The Landes race), Saint-Sever (25 km, prehistoric remains, Roman , novels, history of the abbey), Brassempouy (35 km, House of the Lady, prehistory), etc.

Music

The Orangery is about 40 km from Marciac, whose jazz festival has gained worldwide fame, which now offers events throughout the year.

Several music festivals take place during the summer and offer concerts in castles or churches. Thus the musical Moments of Chalosse, Arte flamenco festival of Mont-de-Marsan (July), “Songs and words of Amou” (42 km), “Rue du Bizeou” in Arboucave (10 km). And even more.

Vie locale

Sport and relaxation

  • Golf : 2 km Les Greens d’Eugénie.
  • Mountain bike et motorbike : Several circuits exist, see teh website.
  • Hunt : The “Tursan” is a region with a lots of preys. Deer, wild boar and pheasant are abundant. But the country is also known for its passion for pigeon hunting.
  • Fishing : fishing is possible in streams and lakes near Bahus
  • Trekking : The website below gives a list of hiking trails. A map is available at the cottage
  • Bullfigt and “landaise race” : towns and villages organize many Landaise races in their arenas; famous bullfights take place every summer at Mont-de-Marsan (25 km), Dax (75 km), Aire-sur-l’Adour, Garlin, …
  • Rugby : all cities, all villages have their rugby stadium. Competitions take place every weekend outside of summer.

Gastronomy

The Landes, like the Gers and Pyrénées-Atlantiques nearby are rightly famous for their gastronomy, whose main assets are:

  • Poultry (chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, capons, pigeons, … and foie gras, duck, …)
  •  Beef and veal (oxen, blond of Aquitaine, …); black pork; …
  • Prey (northern hake, deer, wild boar, pheasants, …)
  • Le poisson (alose, truite, saumon, …)
  • Fish (shad, trout, salmon, …)
  • Asparagus and carrots, Landes specialties
  • Kiwis, raspberries
  • Pastries: Gascon pastis, madeleines, meat pies, …
  • The wines: the Tursan on the spot, the Madiran with 15 km, the Saint-Mount with 15 km, the Jurançon with 50 km, the Graves with 100 km.
  • Alcohols: Armagnac (the best, Bas Armagnac is 20 km away) and Floc de Gascogne.

For all these specialties, it is easy to learn. Many guides exist. These products can be found in the markets, but also in producers, farms, vineyards, … Everyone around the Orangery knows good products and good addresses.

 

Cures

The Orangerie is located nearby (5 km) from Eugénie-les-Bains, which now enjoys international renown. The establishment of spa is renowned for the quality of the services intended to relieve articular and digestive problems; reduce stress; meet the special needs of growing athletes or young people. In addition, it is in a sublime place magnified by the famous chef Michel Guérard and his wife, president of La Chaîne Spa du Soleil. Other thermal establishments are a few tens of km away: Dax, Préchacq, Barbotan, …
